ECO TEXTILE.
SUSTAINABLE AND RESPONSIBLE

Eco Textile is a sustainable capsule in which an eco-responsible approach takes precedence. Our recycled and organic fabrics are manufactured and finished with processes that are committed to protecting the environment and ensuring public well-being.

SECTOR AWARENESS
The textile industry is the third most polluting industry in the world and one of the largest consumers of water during its manufacturing processes. The resources used to manufacture fabrics, either in the form of water, energy, chemical products or other components, are not noticed by the majority of consumers and most are unaware of how harmful buying a garment can be to the environment. To New Junior, knowledge is power. The company therefore focuses on the need to be transparent in the use of natural resources and the impact this has on climate change with regard to all of its manufacturing processes.

FABRICS
To keep our supply chain as sustainable as possible, we make sure that all of our suppliers are made aware of the corresponding environmental and social standards. We source raw materials from local suppliers, when this is possible, and assess all of our suppliers, allowing us to minimise environmental impacts and make sure that there is a fair, safe and healthy work environment for all workers when we manufacture our fabrics.

DYEING AND FINISHING
The dyeing process in fabric manufacturing requires a huge amount of energy and water, but it also requires the incorporation of chemical elements commonly found in dyes and pigments into the fabric. Our suppliers are assessed to make sure no restricted substances are found in the fabric they manufacture. In this way, we make sure that there are no harmful substances in the end product, guaranteeing that our fabrics are safe and that they comply with international regulations.

Eco Textile

100% ORGANIC COTTON

Eco Textile complies with the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).
GOTS is the leading global textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria. The aim of the standard is to define the requirements recognised around the world to guarantee that the final textile product (garment) is organic, from the way the raw materials are harvested and responsible manufacturing (in both environmental and social terms) to labelling, providing to the end consumer with guarantees. The standard covers processing, manufacturing packaging, labelling, trading and distribution of all textile products produced with a content of at least 70% of certified organic fibres.

Eco Textile also complies with the OCS (Organic Content Standard).
OCS is based on inspection by independent auditors to confirm that an end product contains the necessary amount of raw materials, which have been grown organically. OCS allows the independent, transparent, consistent and comprehensive assessment and inspection of the organic matter content statements of products. OCS also covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labelling, marking and distribution of products that contain at least 5% of certified “organic” material.

Eco Textile by New Junior is GOTS and OCS certified for yarns and fabrics (Record no. CU1002044).

CLEANER COTTON AND MORE ECO FRIENDLY

The Better Cotton initiative began with the aim of improving global cotton production for producers, making it more eco-friendly in the environment where the crop is grown and better for the future of the industry, with the development of Better Cotton as a basic sustainable product.

The members of the BCI are making their contributions to help cotton producers achieve this goal. Farmers are trained to follow the Better Cotton principles and criteria and regular assessments are made, ensuring all BCI farmers are monitored and supervised.

The Better Cotton principles and criteria establish the global definition of Better Cotton, in accordance with the following six principles:
– Minimising the harmful impact of crop protection practices.
– Efficient use of water and protection of water sources.
– Protecting of soils.
– Preserving natural habitats.
– Protecting and preserving the quality of fibres.
– Promoting of decent jobs.

By adhering to its principles, Better Cotton farmers produce cotton with processes that are much better for the environment and for farming communities. For a physical kilo of Better Cotton, the BCI producer obtains 1 BCCU (Better Cotton Claim Unit). These BCCUs are transmitted through the supply chain and finally claimed by the retailer and brand members.

The BCI states that 5 million Better Cotton farmers can produce 8.2 million metric tonnes of Better Cotton by 2020. This represents approximately 30% of global cotton production.

ECO Textile by New Junior has its own BCI account (no. 1005146-1) to receive the BCCUs from its BCI suppliers and transfer the BCCU to its customers when they request it. This is how ECO Textile supports the Better Cotton initiative.

100% NATURAL LINEN 0% WASTE

Linen has its own specific culture and supply chain. Its use includes general textiles and household textiles, as well as high-performance technical products, such as composite materials.

A label was created to improve products and meet the expectations of consumers/purchasers in terms of quality and traceability of the fibre: European Flax®. European Flax® is the quality visa of premium European linen fibre for all uses. It preserves, highlights and protects an exclusively European form of agriculture and industry, its regional origins and its non-relocatable and inherent know-how.

The European Flax® manifesto, signed by all linen producers, guarantees local crop-growing volumes that respect the environment: zero irrigation, zero GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) and zero waste, adapting imperfections in the cycle to the best environmental practices, promoted by the Cradle to Cradle mark.

European Flax® is a process based on audits, requiring the entire supply chain, from producers to retailers, to be audited. The certification is provided by the CELC (European Confederation of Linen and Hemp) for companies that produce linen and linen fibre. European Flax® is certified by the Bast Fiber Authority. Companies processing or marketing bed linen and linen across all stages are certified by Bureau Veritas.

Goals of European Flax®:
– Preservation of agricultural products.
– Establishment of linen paper as a protective natural plant fibre protecting ecosystems with the best crop-growing practices.
– Certifying traceability during each production stage.
– Becoming a brand that is open to all prospective potential: a quality passport that anticipates and participates in the opening of new markets.
– Participating in the penetration of new markets in new regions.

ECO Textile by New Junior is a member of European Flax® since 2020, certified for thread and fabric trade (no. BVFR8584022).

SMALL EFFORTS HAVE A BIG IMPACT

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) was originally developed by Control Union Certifications (CU) in 2008 and its property was transferred to Textile Exchange on 1 January 2011. GRS is an international, voluntary, comprehensive products that establishes the requirements for third-party certification on the content of recycled materials, the chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical product restrictions. The goal of the GRS is to increase the use of recycled materials in products and to reduce or eliminate the harm caused during their production.

Goals of the GRS:
– Aligning definitions in multiple applications.
– Monitoring and tracking recycled input materials.
– Providing customers with a tool so they can take informed decisions.
– Reducing the impact of production on people and the environment.
– Guaranteeing that the materials of the end product are recycled and processed with a sustainable approach.
– Driving innovation to address the quality problems encountered when using recycled materials.

The GRS has been designed for its use on any product that contains at least 20% of recycled materials. Each production stage must be certified, starting with the recycling stage and ending with the final vendor, in the final transaction between companies. The material collection and concentration stages require submitting self-declaration statements, document gathering and on-site visits.

In addition to the standard content declaration requirements, all organisations participating in the production or trading of GRS goods must meet the following requirements:
– All recycled materials entering the supply chain must have a valid Transaction Certificate (TC) issued by an approved certification body.
– The percentage content of pre-consumption and post-consumption materials will be recorded separately for each batch in each certified site and be registered in the Transaction Certificate.

ECO Textile by New Junior is GRS certified (no. CU1002044).

THE RIGHT TO KNOW

The STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is an independent certification and testing system that is the same around the world for all raw and semi-finished textile products at all processing levels, as well as for the additional materials used.

Since its introduction in 1992, the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® has focused on the development of testing criteria, limit values and testing methods with a scientific basis for hundreds of individual and regulated substances, taking into account:
– Important legal regulations, such as prohibited azo dyes, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, cadmium, nickel, etc.
– Numerous harmful chemical products, even if they are not legally regulated yet.
– Requirements in annexes XVII and XVI of the European chemical regulations (REACH), as well as the ECHA’s list of SVHC candidates, as long as they are relevant to threads, textiles, garments or accessories.
– Many classes of substances that are also environmentally relevant.

The STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certificate is the world’s leading ecological mark for textiles. Any textile article bearing the mark has been evaluated and approved by an internationally renowned institute and assures the consumer that the article is free of harmful substances. The mark applies to yarn, fabric, garments and finished goods and accessories such as foam etc.

ECO Textile by New Junior is OEKO-TEX® certified (no. 20180K1637 AITEX).

CLEANING OCEANS

The Seaqual Initiative operates in ocean cleaning tasks around the world to provide value to the waste recovered.

The ocean cleaning tasks range from small groups of local volunteers to international programmes. Specific beaches can be cleaned or entire fishing communities can take part in these tasks, recovering the waste on a regular basis.

These ocean cleaning tasks collect all kinds of waste: plastic, metal, glass, rubber and mixed materials, from shoes to refrigerators!

Mixed waste is very hard to recycle, so, in the past, many types of waste used to be taken to dump sites or incinerated. The Seaqual Initiative is responsible for giving a second life to these materials. Likewise, Seaqual Initiative does not seek to find materials to recycle, but it recycles all materials it finds.

Mixed waste is classified depending on the different types of materials it contains; materials such as metal and glass are recycled via traditional routes, while organic matter and other non-plastic materials are recycled or eliminated with a responsible approach. Sea plastic is the hardest type of plastic to recycle. Even though plastic can remain in the ocean for hundreds of years, UV rays, salt water and friction can cause it to degrade rapidly. The Seaqual Initiative gives a new life to all types of sea plastic.

The types of plastic found and the proportion of plastic compared to other materials depend on many factors, including the type of ocean cleaning task, the region and season. Generally speaking, beach cleaning procedures have a higher plastic collection rate, because the tides have taken waste to the coast. For example, PET water bottles represent 40% of the waste collected from some beaches, but only 5-10% of the waste collected from the sea bed by fishing workers.

SEAQUAL® YARN is a polyester yarn made from high-quality, 100% recycled, post-consumer material containing upcycled marine plastic from the Seaqual Initiative.
